Two long range jet aircraft are specifically designated for use by the President of the United States. The modified 747-200B's (USAF designation VC-25A), SAM-28000 and SAM-29000 are only referred to as Air Force One when the President is on board.

These two heavily modified 747s are identical and include electronics and communications equipment which enable the President of the United States to be the Commander and Chief from anywhere in the world. They also contain an executive suite consisting of a stateroom, presidents office, full dressing room with lavatory and shower, a Presidential conference/dinning room and separate accomodations for guests, senior staff, Secret Service and security personnel and news media.

They are capable of inflight refueling and are completely independent of airport facilities with front and rear air stairs and a self contained baggage loader.

100 meals at a time can be served from the two on board galleys.

The VIP compartment can be converted to a medical facility for minor medical emergencies.

These aircraft are flown by the presidential aircrew, maintained by the Presidential Maintenance Branch, and are assigned to Air Mobility Command's 89th Airlift Wing, Andrews Air Force Base, Md.
